AIR: Travel to Torres Strait via Qantaslink to Horn Island (HID)
from Cairns (CNS). Phone: 131313.
SEA: Seaswift Cargo and Passenger Vessel from Cairns. The vessel
Trinity Bay travels from Cairns to Horn Island, Thursday Island
and Seisia, each week. Phone: 1800 424 422 for bookings and information.
ROAD: Drive yourself to the Tip of Cape York, then catch a ferry
across to Horn Island. Don’t want to drive yourself try a 4WD tour.

before you leave home.
I’m driving up the Cape and staying at one of the Campgrounds,
can we visit Horn Island?
Yes just ask your Campground to book your Horn Island tour and Ferry.
We’re staying at a Campground on the Cape and want to get
a good look around.
Speak to the Campground Staff and get them to book you a Gateway
“Full Benefit” Package. It includes:
- Garrison Town Tour of Thursday Island
- Entry into the Torres Strait Historical Society Underground
Museum of Green Hill Fort, Thursday Island.
- Forgotten Island tour of Horn Island
- 3 full meals v Entry into the Torres Strait Heritage Museum,
Horn Island.
- Complimentary souvenir booklets.
- Fishing at the local wharf (supplied fishing gear)
- Free In house movies & Overnight accommodation.

While waiting at the airport, take the opportunity to visit the
Torres Strait Heritage Museum. The price includes return airport
transfers, entry to the Torres Strait Heritage Museum, tea/coffe
and biscuits and a souvenir booklet.

Horn Island Facilities.
FOOD : Horn Island has two general corner stores, where basic items
can be purchased. One of these stores is also an outlet for Video
2000, hiring dvds and video movies.
FUEL : Fuel for vehicles and boats can be purchased at the Seaswift
Depot.
MONEY : An eftpos facility exists at the Gateway Torres Strait
Resort, however there is an ATM machine on nearby Thursday Island.
ACCOMODATION : The Gateway Torres Strait Resort has 22 self contained
rooms.
FERRY TRAVEL : McDonald Charter boats provides a lovely harbour
cruise across to Thursday Island. This beautiful trip takes 15minutes
and costs $7 each way for adults.* The ferry has trips every hour
from 6:30am-6:00pm Mon-Sat with six ferry trips on Sundays.
MEDICAL : Horn Island has a state of the art Health Care Centre,
with a nurse on duty 5 days a week, and a nurse/health care professional
available 24 hours a day for medical concerns. For larger concerns,
Thursday Island has a Medical Centre and Hospital, and can be reached
by ferry or by Medivac Helicopter.
AMBULANCE : There is an ambulance available on Horn Island for
emergencies, call 000.
POLICE : A modern police station is located behind the Gateway
Resort. Call 000 for emergencies.
MAIL : Mail can be deposited at the Gateway Resort for postage.
